Kirirom National Park Access Road Undergoing Renovation and Expansion to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

In Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia, a section of National Road 46, approximately 2,000 meters long, leading to Preah Suramrit Kosamak (Kirirom National Park), is undergoing renovation and expansion by the Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport. The road had become narrow and damaged, causing difficulties for travelers. Hong Chan Sokha, Director of the Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport of Kampong Speu, stated on July 28, 2026, that Kirirom National Park is a natural resort attracting significant attention from both domestic and international tourists daily, leading to heavy traffic on this road. Recognizing the narrowness and damage to the road, causing congestion and travel inconvenience for tourists, the department has deployed multiple excavators to carry out repairs and improvements. Chan Sokha further explained that alongside the renovation, the road's width is being expanded to be wider than before. This aims to help reduce traffic congestion and road accidents caused by dangerous overtaking and disregard for right-of-way. Specifically, the road segment connects from kilometer 7+00 to kilometer 8+900, totaling 1900 meters, located in Yai Mao Pich Nil and Treal Trolaing communes, Phnom Sruoch district. Technical teams are repairing damaged, sunken, and uneven sections and applying additional resealing (Reseal DBST), with some areas receiving two to three layers of asphalt to ensure a smooth road surface and reinforce the underlying foundation. The road widening ensures durability and ample space for use. In conjunction with the technical team's renovation work on National Road 46, Governor Cham Chansophoan of Kampong Speu Province inspected the site and instructed the Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport to intensify efforts in repairing and improving all damaged roads within the province. This is to ensure smooth travel and transportation for citizens, especially during the rainy season. Following these instructions, the department has outlined plans for the renovation, improvement, and maintenance of several priority roads using the ministry's budget allocation for 2026, with the work being implemented by the provincial department.
