Cambodia Customs Inspects Advanced Inspection Tech in China to Boost Trade Facilitation

From July 27 to 31, 2026, H.E. Dr. Kun Nhem, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (GDCE), led a delegation on a working visit to NUCTECH Company Limited in Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China. The visit aimed to explore smart customs systems and inspection technologies for use in customs operations, aligning with the Customs Reform and Modernization Strategy 2024-2028 and the Communication and Information Technology Strategy 2025-2029. The objective is to enhance trade facilitation, ensure tax compliance, and prevent smuggling and tax evasion. During the mission, the GDCE delegation met with Mr. Yang Bo, General Manager of NUCTECH, a leading company in inspection technology systems. NUCTECH supplies and provides maintenance services for scanners at various international airports, seaports, and key border checkpoints. In their discussions, H.E. Dr. Kun Nhem expressed interest in NUCTECH's technological systems, including: 1. Scanners equipped with the latest technologies and designed for easy mobility. 2. Equipment for detecting narcotics and explosives. 3. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for image analysis. 4. Smart Gate systems. 5. Smart Customs systems. The delegation also visited NUCTECH's manufacturing plant for inspection equipment and scanners to understand the production and assembly processes. Specialized personnel from the company presented new technological solutions that can aid customs operations. It is noteworthy that the GDCE and NUCTECH began their cooperation in 2003. Currently, the GDCE utilizes 15 NUCTECH container scanners across its various customs and excise units. They have also collaborated on implementing a platform for consolidated cargo inspection, which includes the Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) and a scanner image aggregation system.
