P63-M Worth of Counterfeit Luxury Clothes Seized in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Around P63 million worth of counterfeit luxury clothes were confiscated from six mall stalls in Baclaran, Pasay City, and a warehouse in Valenzuela City on Tuesday, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced. In an interview with reporters on Wednesday, NBI’s National Capital Region (NCR) regional director Emeterio Dongallo Jr. said the operation was part of an intensified crackdown on the proliferation of fake goods in the country. The seized items included clothing from well-known brands, which are described as malicious acts that not only damage the image of legitimate brands but also lead to consumer safety and intellectual property rights violations. In recent years, the distribution of counterfeit goods has increased in the Philippines, along with the expansion of online sales. The NBI has indicated that it will continue to strengthen information gathering and enforcement activities. This confiscation highlights the importance of counterfeit goods countermeasures in the Philippines, and similar crackdowns are expected to continue. The NBI urges the public not to purchase counterfeit goods and requests information regarding fake products.
