Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing to Visit Thailand in Early August for Border Talks
Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing is slated to visit Thailand in early August, with discussions expected to focus on cross-border environmental issues, including contamination in the Kok River, according to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on Thursday that Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to visit Thailand in early August. Cross-border environmental issues, notably contamination in the Kok River, are expected to be a primary topic of discussion during the visit. Anutin stated that he had discussed the Kok River contamination issue with Myanmar's foreign minister on July 15. The talks also encompassed transboundary haze from open burning, other forms of pollution, ethnic minority concerns, drug trafficking, and bilateral security cooperation aimed at combating narcotics. When questioned about whether Min Aung Hlaing's upcoming visit would include discussions on these matters, Anutin affirmed that all negotiations would be conducted based on Thailand's national interests. "If it leads to mutual benefits for both countries, we will work toward reaching conclusions and agreements as quickly as possible," he added. Source: Khaosod English
