South Korea Provides Grant Aid for Cambodian Rural Development, Supporting Reconstruction and Community-Led Progress

The Ministry of Rural Development and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia held a signing ceremony for grant aid to support the second phase of the 'Peace Village' construction project through the comprehensive development of rural communities. The ceremony took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Battambang Provincial Hall. The signing was attended by H.E. Chhay Rithysen, Minister of Rural Development, and H.E. Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Also present were the Permanent Secretary of State, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, leaders of the Ministry of Rural Development, H.E. the Governor of Battambang Province, representatives of the Deputy Governors of Pailin and Banteay Meanchey Provinces, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office, Provincial Departments of Rural Development in the target provinces, representatives of various departments and units around Battambang Province, as well as authorities at all levels and members of Village Development Committees (VDCs), totaling 156 participants. This grant aid for the second phase of the 'Peace Village' construction project will continue to support village development activities. It aims to promote rural community development, enhance leadership, increase participation and ownership, and strengthen capacity in discussions to effectively identify issues, needs, and priorities for their respective village development plans. The 'Peace Village' construction project, in its first and second phases, is developing a total of 30 villages in three target provinces: Battambang, Pailin, and Banteay Meanchey. The goal is to transform the northwestern region of Cambodia, an area historically affected by conflict and landmines, into a land of sustainable peace and prosperity.
