Cambodia Hosts Media Forum on Combating Fake News, Promoting Information Integrity

The Ministry of Information of Cambodia held a media forum on September 17, 2026, titled "Fighting Against Fake News and Award Contest for Content Creators 2026" (Zero Fake News Media Forum and Award Contest). The event, held under the theme "Fighting Against Fake News and Upholding Information Integrity in the Mekong-Lancang Region," took place at the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel in Phnom Penh and was presided over by H.E. Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information. H.E. Net Pheaktra stated that Cambodia maintains a firm commitment to the goal of combating fake news. Through this endeavor, the Ministry of Information will continue to strengthen its "Zero Fake News" campaign, enhance media and digital literacy, and promote journalistic professionalism. The Minister highlighted that Cambodia's objective is not only to reduce misinformation but also to expand the accessibility and credibility of reliable information. He further emphasized the importance of responsible content creation, timely public communication, and cooperation among government institutions, media organizations, journalists, educators, youth, social media influencers, and citizens. H.E. Net Pheaktra underscored, "Cambodia's commitment is clear. We will continue to strengthen the "Zero Fake News" campaign, promote media and digital literacy, support professional and ethical journalism, enhance trustworthy public communication, and engage actively with youth, journalists, content creators, educators, technology actors, and citizens. We will actively contribute to ASEAN cooperation on information and media, and work closely with our Mekong-Lancang partners and international counterparts to further enhance information integrity and public trust." The Minister added that Cambodia's ambition should go beyond correcting false information; it should aim to create an environment where reliable information travels faster than false information, where trustworthy news reaches further than rumors, and where citizens can make informed decisions, allowing media outlets to fulfill their professional responsibilities. He affirmed, "Technology can serve the public interest, and cooperation can strengthen mutual understanding among our peoples and countries." During the event, H.E. Net Pheaktra reiterated Cambodia's support for practical, voluntary, mutually beneficial, and consensus-based cooperation among Mekong-Lancang countries, fully respecting national laws and the situations of each country. He clarified, "Such cooperation should complement, not duplicate, existing national, ASEAN, and international arrangements."
