Vietnam's Top Leader Engages in Multilateral Diplomacy During US Visit

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam has engaged in a series of diplomatic activities during his working trip to New York to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He held meetings with US government officials, leaders of major US corporations, and Vietnamese experts and intellectuals residing in the US, discussing the enhancement of bilateral cooperation. Key meetings included discussions with John Noh, US Assistant Secretary of War for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, and Thomas R. Hardy, Acting Director of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), focusing on strengthening collaboration in security, economy, and technology. Meetings with executives from major US companies such as Boeing, Apple, and Warburg Pincus explored potential cooperation in aviation, technology, and investment. In his policy speech at the UN General Assembly, General Secretary To Lam outlined four major orientations to steer and manage change, ensuring that competition does not turn into confrontation, differences do not lead to conflict, and scientific-technological progress does not create new divisions. This underscored Vietnam's commitment to playing a constructive role on the international stage. Furthermore, General Secretary To Lam met with Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in the US, expressing gratitude for their contributions to the country's development and encouraging their continued engagement. These engagements highlight Vietnam's efforts to increase its influence globally and balance economic growth with international cooperation. Vietnam also continues its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, with a Royal Australian Air Force transport aircraft arriving in Hanoi to carry a Vietnamese contingent to South Sudan.
