Ho Chi Minh City Students Experience 160-Year-Old Pottery Village

Ho Chi Minh City has organized an experiential program to provide opportunities for young people to engage with traditional industries rooted in the region. On August 4, 2026, the Department of Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) organized a program for 100 middle school students to visit traditional rural industries in the former Binh Duong province. The participating students were from middle schools such as Thu Dau Mot, Nguyen Trung Truc, and Nguyen Viet Xuan. They visited the Dai Hung kiln in Chanh Hiep ward, a famous ancient pottery village in the Southern Vietnam region with a history of over 160 years. Here, they learned about the production process of traditional pottery products such as jars, storage jars, and urns, as well as the cultural values associated with the pottery industry. Furthermore, students also visited the "Dinh Hoa Lacquer Painting" workshop to learn about the process of creating traditional lacquer paintings and experienced stages such as applying lacquer, decorating, applying gold leaf, embedding eggshells, and finishing by polishing. At the yard of Nguyen Van Cu Middle School in Thu Dau Mot ward, various experiential activities reflecting the characteristics of rural areas were held, including a rural market, a piggy bank painting contest, basket decoration, a sales pitch competition, and a quiz competition on rural industries and environmental protection. This experiential program aims to help students gain a deeper understanding of the value of rural industries, foster affection for traditional crafts, contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage, the rational use of resources, environmental protection, and the promotion of rural values in the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
