On Indonesia's Independence Day, August 17th, fares for public transportation managed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will be reduced to Rp 1. This decision was announced by the Governor of DKI Jakarta as a gift to the public in commemoration of the nation's independence. "On August 17th, we will celebrate Independence Day. As Governor of Jakarta, I have decided to give a gift to all transportation managed by the DKI Jakarta government: the fare will be only 1 rupiah," said the Governor at Bundaran HI, Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8/2026). The Rp 1 fare policy will apply to public transport services including Transjakarta buses, MRT, and LRT Jakarta. For context, on August 17th, the government will also hold a "Pesta Rakyat" (People's Party) at Monas Park in Central Jakarta. "On August 17th, from morning till night, the committee will also hold a People's Party in the Monas area. This party will feature various activities including competitions with attractive prizes for the public," said Wamensesneg Juri Ardiantoro in a press conference at the Palace, Central Jakarta, on Friday (31/7). There will also be entertainment stages. The event will be enlivened by fireworks, a drone show, and free food. "There will be several other performances that the public can enjoy, starting with, for example, a drone show, video mapping, and fireworks," he stated. "We will also offer other attractions to the public in the Monas area. In addition, we will provide free food for visitors coming to the Monas area," Juri continued.
