Kampong Chhnang province in Cambodia celebrated National Fish Day on July 1, 2026, emphasizing the conservation of aquatic resources and the promotion of sustainable fisheries. The event, held annually, took place at the Chvay Sen Chey Reservoir in Prey Khmer village, Roluos Pear commune, Roluos Pear district. Dr. Uk Rabun, Chairman of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, presided over the ceremony. He was joined by H.E. Sun Sovannarith, Governor of Kampong Chhnang province, H.E. Siv Run, President of the Provincial Council, as well as national assembly representatives, deputy governors, government officials, educators, students, and a large number of citizens. Dr. Rabun stated that under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, National Fish Day is a significant occasion organized annually to raise public awareness and encourage participation in conserving fish species in natural waters and increasing fish yields in areas with scarce fishery resources. He further explained that the release of fry and parent fish reflects excellent outcomes in managing and conserving aquatic resources. This initiative contributes to poverty reduction, improved livelihoods for citizens, and sustained economic growth by maintaining a balance between conservation and development. He urged all citizens, authorities, and law enforcement agencies to actively protect the parent fish and fry released during the event, ensuring their survival and continued reproduction for future generations.
