TVET Graduates Power Cambodia's Growing Auto Industry at Toyota Plant

PHNOM PENH, Aug 4, 2026 (KPT) — Nearly 80 percent of workers assembling vehicles at Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) are graduates of Cambodia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, underscoring the growing role of vocational education in supplying skilled labour to the country’s expanding automotive industry, officials said Monday. Labour and Vocational Training Minister Heng Sour made the remarks during a visit to the Toyota assembly plant at the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, where he met employees and discussed their working conditions. Sour said the high proportion of TVET graduates at the factory demonstrated the effectiveness of Cambodia’s vocational training system in preparing skilled workers for modern manufacturing. He called it a source of pride for the graduates, the TVET sector and the country. He urged workers to continue upgrading their technical skills through advanced training while maintaining productivity and harmonious labour relations to support both industrial growth and national economic development. The minister also praised the company for creating quality jobs, complying with Cambodia’s labour law and providing employees with modern technology‑driven workplaces, competitive benefits and safe conditions. He said the ministry would continue working with the firm to expand training, employment and income opportunities. Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia), which began operations in May 2024, currently employs 142 workers, including 24 women. In addition to wages and benefits, employees receive meal allowances, work in a modern production environment and are covered by Cambodia’s National Social Security Fund. Company director Kong Noun said the minister’s visit reflected the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and would strengthen cooperation in developing Cambodia’s industrial sector.
