After Operation 1027, Scam Businesses Spread to Over 17 Townships in Shan State

Mekong, September 14 Following the completion of Operation 1027, scam and money laundering gangs from the Kokang and Wa regions have spread to over 17 townships in Shan State, according to a report. This was highlighted in a report released by ISP Myanmar in September. "Although Operation 1027 can be said to be complete, some aspects have not been achieved as per the original objectives. Scam online gambling has not been eradicated either. Scam businesses that were in the Kokang region and the Wa Self-Administered Division have moved and spread to southern and eastern Shan State after Operation 1027," ISP stated. For example, scam businesses are most frequently found in Tangyan, Laycha, and Tachileik townships, and scam operations are also being conducted extensively in Muse township, which is under the control of the military council. According to sources that the public can freely access, ISP stated that scam businesses exist in no less than 17 townships within Shan State, including Hopong, Laycha, Namhsan, Myanngyae, Tangyan, Kengtung, Myatsat, Myattone, and Tachileik. "More than 25 scam businesses are currently still operating in these areas," ISP said. Scammers from Laukkai, Panghsang, and Mongla have moved to southern and eastern Shan State after Operation 1027, and scam businesses are most frequently found in Tangyan, Laycha, Tachileik, and Muse townships.
