Sara Duterte Calls for Marcos' Resignation Amid Grave Threats Case
Vice President Sara Duterte has called for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s resignation during a rally, citing his perceived lack of gratitude towards the Filipino people and criticizing his administration. The call comes amid her own arraignment for grave threats charges.
Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday called on President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to step down from office during a rally at the Quezon City Hall, where she was scheduled for an arraignment related to her grave threats case. Duterte told her supporters, "Let us continue to clamor that our nation's problem would leave. The name of that problem is Bongbong Marcos. Resign! Leave!" She further criticized the President, stating, "You're a liar, abusive. He has no debt of gratitude to our people and everyone who went to the precincts to put him in power. He has no shame. That's how it is with addicts. Their thoughts are not grounded on reality. Let us continue to fight the abusive ones, the addicts, and the corrupt." The Vice President's strong statement came after her arraignment at the Quezon City Hall of Justice for grave threat charges was postponed due to a motion filed by her camp. The charges stem from remarks she made in an online press conference in 2024, where she allegedly said she had spoken with someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if anything happened to her. This alleged threat forms the basis of one of four Articles of Impeachment she is currently facing before the Senate impeachment court. President Marcos is scheduled to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, from September 12 to 13. GMA News Online has requested comment from Malacañang regarding Duterte's remarks, but it has yet to respond as of posting time. The public call for resignation by the Vice President against the sitting President signals a significant rift within the Philippine political landscape, raising concerns about governance and stability.
