South Korean University Plans Scholarship Program for Needy Cambodian Students

Cheju Halla University in the Republic of Korea is planning to establish cooperation with a university in Cambodia to provide scholarship opportunities for Cambodian students facing financial difficulties, enabling them to pursue higher education according to Korean standards. This initiative was raised by Dr. JUN Yongwook, Vice President of Cheju Halla University, during a working meeting with His Excellency Khuon Phonrattanak, Cambodian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, at the Cambodian Embassy in Seoul on the morning of September 2, 2026. Dr. JUN Yongwook informed the Ambassador that the university intends to collaborate with a Cambodian university to offer scholarships to financially disadvantaged Cambodian students, allowing them to continue their higher education under Korean standards in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and accounting, which align with international job market demands. In response, HE Khuon Phonrattanak expressed his support for the project and invited Dr. JUN Yongwook to visit Cambodia to hold discussions with relevant ministries and educational institutions in the country. The Ambassador affirmed that the Cambodian Embassy in the Republic of Korea is ready to facilitate such meetings. Concurrently, HE Khuon Phonrattanak also requested the university to consider the possibility of providing scholarships to students who have completed their studies in Korea and members of the Cambodian community in Korea who wish to pursue higher education at Cheju Halla University. Cheju Halla University is a private university established in 1969, located in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea. The university offers numerous programs and focuses on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into its curriculum, including media system management, industrial design, information technology, drones, and architecture.
