Indigenous Pru Community Plants 2,500 Trees to Celebrate Arbor Day and Promote Environmental Conservation

In Sesan District, Stung Treng Province, the indigenous Pru community organized a large-scale tree-planting event, planting 2,500 saplings to celebrate the 2026 Arbor Day (Rokkhi Volea). The planting took place across various locations, including mountainous areas, school grounds, community spaces, and public roads. The event was presided over by Ms. Long Phirum, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Sesan District. Mr. Sorn Samrith, Deputy Governor of Stung Treng Province, also attended, representing Governor Mr. Sor Soputra. Approximately 250 participants, including district officials, commune council members, representatives from the DPA organization, members of the indigenous Pru community, students, and youth, actively engaged in the ceremony. The trees were planted on Katot Mountain, an area known for its natural potential and the presence of ancient Kok tree species, considered a valuable natural asset. The saplings planted include various tree types that are well-suited to the mountain environment and will contribute to preventing soil erosion, retaining moisture, and protecting the ecosystem. During the event, Ms. Long Phirum emphasized that the tree-planting ceremony is a significant activity for celebrating Arbor Day and raising public awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources. She urged all citizens, especially youth and students, to continue planting and caring for trees to ensure a clean, green, and sustainable environment for future generations. Mr. Sorn Samrith highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government's strategy for sustainable development and natural resource protection. He encouraged local authorities, communities, and all stakeholders to collaborate closely to further enhance the preservation of forests and the natural environment. The primary objectives of this event include enhancing the knowledge and promoting the participation of the public, students, and communities in conserving natural resources through tree planting. Additionally, it aims to foster public spirit and support for a clean, green environment and a sustainable future.
