Bodybuilder's Wedding Dreams Shattered in Fatal Udon Thani Crash; Father Demands Justice

UDON THANI, Thailand – A grieving father is seeking justice after his 23-year-old son, a young bodybuilder and fitness trainer, was killed in a crash at a major intersection in Udon Thani, just months before he was due to marry his girlfriend, a nurse. Faprathan “Joe” Thongkhot died in the collision at the Nong Samrong bypass intersection in Muang district at around 11:58 p.m. on July 26. His father, Khamphan Thongkhot, 50, has appealed for a fair investigation, claiming CCTV footage shows his son entered the intersection after the traffic light turned green before being struck by another vehicle. The victim was the family’s only son and had recently completed his studies while working as a fitness trainer and competitive bodybuilder. He had been planning a wedding later this year with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Phatthanai, a hospital nurse. The family said Faprathan had just dropped his girlfriend off at Udon Thani Hospital before the crash. He later called his mother and said he was heading home and asked her to prepare food for him, but he never returned. According to initial information, Faprathan was riding his motorcycle through the intersection when the traffic signal turned green. As he began moving forward, a white Honda City reportedly approached from the right side and collided with him at high speed, killing him at the scene. CCTV footage from the intersection captured the moments leading up to the crash, showing the motorcycle moving after the green light before the car struck him. The footage is expected to be reviewed by investigators as part of the ongoing case. Khamphan said he wants authorities to carefully examine all evidence, including alcohol test results and witness statements, after concerns were raised over whether the case would receive fair treatment. The family also said they had received information from witnesses claiming the other driver appeared to be intoxicated and that there were local rumors the driver was related to a police officer. However, those claims have not been confirmed by authorities and no official conclusion has been made. The father said the other party had contacted the family to discuss compensation, but they would first complete funeral arrangements before discussing financial matters. He stressed that the family’s priority was justice and a transparent investigation. Fighting back tears, Khamphan said his final message to his son was simple: “Dad loves and misses you very much.” He vowed to continue seeking answers and ensure the case proceeds according to the evidence and legal process.
