Huawei Values Strong Cooperation with Cambodian Institutions in Technology Sector

Huawei has highly valued its strong cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions of Cambodia in the technology sector, particularly in human resource development and the advancement of digital technologies. The company expressed its commitment to contributing to Cambodia's technological progress. The appreciation was made by Mr. Wang Xu, President of Huawei for the Multi-Country Southeast Asia Region, during his courtesy call on Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in Phnom Penh on Wednesday afternoon. During the meeting, Mr. Wang Xu spoke highly of Cambodia’s progress across various sectors, particularly the launch of 5G mobile services and the increasing use of renewable energy in the country. He also expressed satisfaction with Huawei’s cooperation with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions in the technology sector. He briefed the Prime Minister on the company’s contributions to developing human resources in information and communications technology (ICT), including training programmes for government officials and Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes to enable further training for Cambodian students. Mr. Wang Xu also shared Huawei’s experience in using technological systems, including artificial intelligence (AI), to monitor and identify locations associated with online scam operations. He also highlighted the development of a digital economic ecosystem for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as the importance of digital data protection and developing human resources in the digital sector. In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet agreed on the importance of developing digital human resources and highlighted a number of risks associated with the use of AI, which require close attention from all relevant stakeholders. Regarding efforts to combat technology-facilitated scams, Samdech Thipadei stressed the need to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement officials and make proactive use of technological tools to improve the effectiveness of combating such crimes. On the technology sector, the Prime Minister underscored that the Royal Government of Cambodia places high priority on human resource development, ensuring the safe use of AI, strengthening cybersecurity and data sovereignty, as well as promoting technology transfer. Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei encouraged Mr. Wang Xu to continue discussions and strengthen closer engagement with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions, particularly the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, to further deepen and expand cooperation in the technology sector.
