Kandal Authorities Push for Clean Water Crisis Resolution and Accelerate New Plant Construction
Kandal Province authorities are pushing for solutions to a clean water shortage caused by rapidly increasing demand. Efforts include augmenting existing plant capacity and accelerating the construction of a new facility, slated for completion by the end of 2026, to ensure stable supply for residents.
Efforts are underway in Kandal Province, Cambodia, to address the challenges faced by residents regarding the supply of clean water. Governor Kuoch Chamroeun has appointed Deputy Governor Khon Sereyrath to lead a team of experts to inspect the current status of clean water production and supply by Golden Bull Co., Ltd. on the morning of September 11, 2026. The inspection took place at two plant locations in Svay Rum and Setbo communes, with participation from officials from the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, the provincial capital, and local authorities. The team examined the purification systems, water pumps, and automatic water pressure regulation systems. Expert teams conducted on-site water quality tests, and the results indicated that the clean water meets the required standards. According to the authorities, issues such as weak water flow, no water supply, or occasional cloudy water (when new pipelines are connected) are occurring because the Svay Rum and Setbo communes are experiencing rapid development. This includes an increase in factories, enterprises, housing, and population, leading to a demand for clean water that exceeds the current supply capacity of the existing plants. As an immediate solution, the provincial administration has urged the company to add temporary water storage tanks. Consequently, the company has added four clean water storage tanks with a total capacity of 40,000 liters in Setbo village, connected from the plant in village No. 3, to temporarily alleviate the distribution of water to ensure sufficient supply for residents. For a long-term solution, Golden Bull Co., Ltd. is in the process of constructing a new, larger clean water supply plant in Setbo village. The company has pledged that the construction of this new plant will be fully completed by the end of December 2026, ensuring a sufficient and stable supply of clean water for the residents in both communes.
