Vietnam's Minister of Public Security, To Lam, has expressed strong support and high confidence in the initiative proposed by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, to establish a permanent mechanism for information exchange and procedural coordination among Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The endorsement came during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha and Minister To Lam at the Ministry of Interior on the afternoon of June 29, 2026. This meeting preceded the 2nd Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Ministerial Meeting on Security, which Cambodia is hosting on June 30. According to Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, the trilateral resident official mechanism is intended to strengthen and expand cooperation in information exchange, ensuring rapid, efficient, and timely responses to criminal threats. This includes exchanging data on foreigners who have committed or are involved in crimes, and are blacklisted from entering respective countries, as well as coordinating immigration procedures for the repatriation of citizens found to be involved in criminal activities. Following discussions with the Lao Minister of Interior, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha and the Vietnamese Minister of Public Security agreed to facilitate further discussions and exchange of views among high-ranking leaders and officials on the sidelines of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting. They firmly believe that this mechanism will materialize and commence operations in a spirit of friendly cooperation, contributing to enhanced effectiveness in crime prevention, suppression, and eradication.
