CFO Eyes Enhanced Diaspora Programs with 2027 Budget

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) intends to utilize its proposed P195.2-million budget for 2027 to enhance engagement programs for the Filipino diaspora. During the agency’s budget briefing before the Senate Committee on Finance, CFO Secretary Dante Francis “Klink” M. Ang II stated that they will strengthen programs on youth development, anti-human trafficking efforts, and widen partnerships with other migration and development stakeholders. “It is our intention to continue our mission and ensure that the contributions, welfare, and interests of our permanent and long-term migrants are not neglected,” Mr. Ang said. Of the proposed budget, P93.90 million will be allocated for personnel services, while P101.30 million will fund the agency’s maintenance and other operating expenses. The CFO has maintained its budget disbursement rate at above 90% for seven years. In 2025, the agency obligated 91.36% of its P263.27-million budget. Mr. Ang also sought an additional P88.76-million funding for their BaLinkBayan one-stop online portal, which aims to help non-resident Filipinos volunteer and invest in local businesses, track local government unit development projects, participate in philanthropic activities, and access online government services. This initiative reflects the government's ongoing commitment to supporting overseas Filipinos, including Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and permanent residents, ensuring their contributions are recognized and their welfare is protected. The diaspora is a significant source of remittances for the Philippine economy, and enhanced engagement could further stimulate economic activity.
