Thai Customs Intensifies Border Patrols Amid Concerns of Cambodian Infiltration for Jobs

The Chong Jom Customs Post is intensifying its efforts to prevent Cambodian nationals from illegally infiltrating Thailand and taking jobs from Thai citizens. This initiative aligns with the government's policy to protect and maintain security along the Thai-Cambodian border and to prevent the smuggling of illegal goods. Director-General of Customs, Ms. Suntharee Thawichaprasit, Deputy Director-General, and Ms. Lalita Atthapimol, Director of Customs Region 2, have issued directives to the Chong Jom Customs Post, which covers the three provinces of Surin, Buri Ram, and Nakhon Ratchasima. They have ordered an enhancement of cooperation with relevant agencies to maximize proactive operational efficiency in the area. Mr. Prasit Deecharoen, Director of Chong Jom Customs Post, stated that all border checkpoints remain closed and are under the strict supervision of the Second Army Area's security forces. However, relevant agencies have adapted their operational methods to focus on proactive prevention and suppression measures within the country and their areas of responsibility. The Chong Jom Customs Post has volunteered to lead the integration of efforts with the Surin Immigration Office, Surin Provincial Police, Surin Border Patrol Police, and Surin Provincial Administration. This collaboration involves a joint force of 100 officers to enhance proactive operations. They will establish checkpoints and roadblocks, utilize patrol vehicles for surveillance and inspection of vehicles in the area, and strictly prevent the smuggling of illegal goods, the trafficking of narcotics and firearms, illegal entry, and transnational crime. "Recently, there have been persistent rumors that Cambodian nationals are illegally entering Thailand through natural channels to conduct business or take jobs from Thai people. All government agencies in the area are not indifferent and understand the feelings of the people. Therefore, we are accelerating this integration to upgrade security measures and the prevention and suppression of illegal acts in the area, thereby blocking all forms of wrongdoing and continuously assuring the safety and order for the people in the southern Isaan region," Mr. Prasit concluded.
