Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand is actively promoting the adoption of comprehensive disaster prevention innovations, aiming to enhance the safety of its residents and boost community resilience in the face of recurrent severe floods and multiple earthquake incidents in recent years. This initiative is based on lessons learned from past disasters, seeking to build a more effective and rapid disaster response system by integrating cutting-edge technologies with local knowledge. Specific measures are expected to include the enhancement of early warning systems, improved accuracy of flood prediction, development of infrastructure with higher seismic resistance, and the creation of information tools to support individual evacuation efforts. Due to its geographical characteristics, which include mountainous terrain, plains, and proximity to the Mekong River basin, Chiang Rai province faces high risks of floods and landslides. Seismic activity is also a significant concern due to geological factors. In response to these multifaceted disaster risks, provincial authorities are accelerating the introduction of advanced technologies such as real-time monitoring of river levels and ground movement using IoT (Internet of Things), building AI-powered disaster prediction models, and rapid assessment of disaster situations using drones. Furthermore, collaboration with local communities is being emphasized. This includes regular evacuation drills and the development of mobile applications to facilitate access to disaster information, with the goal of raising disaster awareness across the entire community and promoting self-reliant disaster prevention activities based on mutual assistance. The promotion of disaster prevention innovations in Chiang Rai province has the potential to serve as a model for other disaster-prone regions within Thailand.
