Vice Senior General Gun Maw expresses regret to private ship owners forcibly taken to Bhamo

Ayeyarwaddy Times September 23 Vice Senior General Gun Maw, Vice Chairman of the KIO, has expressed regret and requested understanding from private ship owners who were forcibly taken to Bhamo and suffered losses during an incident where a military convoy traveling up the Ayeyarwaddy River from Mandalay to Bhamo was attacked. This was stated in a letter dated today, September 23. The letter of request sent by KIO Vice Chairman Vice Senior General Gun Maw stated, "I can only say that I regret it," regarding the private ship owners who were forcibly taken to Bhamo and suffered losses. Furthermore, it was learned that private ship owners lost ships and cargo in this attack, and the value of these ships ranges from 800 million Kyats to 2 billion Kyats, according to the letter. The letter also expressed hope for understanding from the private ship owners who suffered such losses and prayed for their businesses to prosper again, as they are the capital for the Spring Revolution period. The military convoy, which departed from Mandalay's Gawwein Port on August 21, arrived in Shwegu Township on August 28 and came under heavy attack from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied revolutionary forces. On September 2, due to intense and record-breaking attacks by the KIA, approximately 10 military ships were damaged, and some military ships surrendered by hoisting a white flag. It was learned that only six military ships were able to dock in Bhamo Township on September 3. Subsequently, the military convoy, which included these civilian ships and attack ships, returned to Mandalay's Gawwein Port on September 21, and approximately 300 members of the Myanmar military forces who were injured in the fighting were sent to Pyin Oo Lwin for treatment.
