NGCP Pushes P23.5-B Transmission Projects to Bolster Philippine Grid Capacity

MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is on track to activate P23.5 billion worth of transmission projects this year as it works to strengthen the country’s grid network further. Breaking it down, NGCP assistant vice president Leonor Felipa Cynthia Alabanza said that approximately P11 billion is allocated to projects slated for completion within the year. These investments are aimed at enhancing the stability and reliability of electricity supply across the Philippines. With the nation's growing economy and increasing power demand, particularly in urban centers like Metro Manila, strengthening the transmission infrastructure is crucial. The projects are designed to increase the grid's capacity and modernize its capabilities, addressing the challenge of supply not keeping pace with demand in some areas. Furthermore, the initiative is vital for supporting the government's target to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's power mix to 40% by 2040.
