Cambodia Signs MOU with Abbott Nutrition to Enhance Nutritional Care Standards

The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Abbott Nutrition International have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at expanding the scope and improving the standards of nutritional care for patients in hospitals across Cambodia, effective from 2026 to 2029. The MOU outlines a three-year cooperation framework focusing on three priority pillars: 1. Development of National Guidelines: To establish national guidelines on nutritional care that can be effectively implemented in hospitals throughout Cambodia. 2. Capacity Building: To facilitate training and transfer of technical knowledge to enhance the capabilities of Cambodian healthcare officials and professionals. 3. Hospital Implementation: To implement the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) in selected national target hospitals, and to explore further cooperation in early disease detection and prevention. The signing ceremony was presided over by Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and attended by Madam Katherine Diop, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, Mr. Brian McFeeters, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC), and Mr. Gustavo Hildenbrand, Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Abbott. Leaders from Abbott and the US-ABC delegation also participated, pledging to strengthen and expand this collaboration between Cambodia and the United States, contributing to the development of a more robust and sustainable healthcare system in Cambodia. Minister of Health, Professor Chheang Ra, emphasized that this collaboration is another significant step in enhancing the quality of treatment services and the healthcare system in Cambodia. He considers a well-defined nutritional care system based on scientific evidence as a core element. Strengthening clinical nutrition is expected to help reduce medical complications, shorten hospital stays, lower readmission rates, and alleviate the healthcare cost burden for patients.
