Over 30,000 people affected by Ngwun Dam breach, relief efforts continue

Over 30,000 people have been affected by the breach of the Ngwun Dam in the Ngwun Reservoir in Letpanhla Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and basic food items and healthcare are being continuously provided to the flood-affected people, according to a post on the Telegram account of the Presidential Office spokesperson, Dr. Khine Khine Soe. According to data collected as of the evening of August 4, due to the breach of the Ngwun Dam in the Ngwun Reservoir in Letpanhla Township, 5 wards, 106 villages, 7,734 houses, 7,858 households, and 32,607 people were affected by the flood, wrote Presidential Office spokesperson Dr. Khine Khine Soe. He also wrote that the provision of food supplies and basic food items to the flood-affected people, as well as healthcare services, are being continuously carried out. He also wrote that efforts are being made to prevent water flow by driving stakes on the right and left sides of the dam to prevent water from flowing over, measuring and monitoring water flow rate and depth to block water entry, and driving stakes to control the water channel. According to measurements taken at 6 PM on August 4, the water level at the Letpanhla Township of the Ngwun River had dropped by approximately 2.4 inches, he further wrote.
