Ho Chi Minh City Mobilises 10,000 Health Workers for Mass Health Checks

Ho Chi Minh City has launched a large-scale health check program, mobilizing 10,000 healthcare workers, to achieve universal health check-ups by 2026. This initiative aims to establish a new healthcare model where every resident has an electronic health record (EHR), receives regular screenings, benefits from lifelong health management, and gains access to early intervention through primary healthcare services. The data will serve as the foundation for lifelong health management while supporting disease prevention, early detection, and improved healthcare services as part of the city’s digital transformation efforts. The free health examination program, which began on May 25, is carried out at qualified healthcare facilities, mobile clinics at schools, factories, and businesses, community-based screening sites arranged by local authorities, as well as through home visits to elderly residents, people living alone, and those with limited mobility. In Vietnam, the promotion of public health is positioned as one of the most crucial issues for national development. The government emphasizes that sustainable and rapid development requires not only a healthy, knowledgeable, and skilled population but also a modern, equitable, efficient, sustainable, and accessible healthcare system. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), in particular, account for nearly 80% of all deaths in Vietnam, making them one of the country's most pressing healthcare challenges. Ho Chi Minh City's comprehensive health check program is expected to accelerate efforts to address these issues and contribute to extending the healthy lifespan and improving the quality of life for each citizen.
