Bridge in Northwest Vietnam Closed Due to Damage from Heavy Rains

In Vietnam's northwestern Dien Bien province, the C9 bridge spanning the Nam Rom river has suffered severe erosion and structural cracks at its abutment due to prolonged heavy rainfall. The bridge connects Thanh Yen commune with Muong Thanh ward and National Road 279. Local authorities have erected barricades and posted warning signs, prohibiting people and vehicles from using the bridge to ensure safety. Traffic diversions are also being organized during the repair period. The C9 bridge is over 100 meters long and approximately 3.5 meters wide, with a designed load capacity of 16 tons. This vital link's damage could impact local transportation and logistics. Vietnam is increasingly experiencing extreme weather events attributed to climate change, raising concerns about infrastructure resilience. Infrastructure in mountainous regions and along rivers is particularly vulnerable to damage from heavy rains and floods.
