Cambodia Senate Urges Strengthening Legal Framework and Enforcement for 2050 National Development Goals
Cambodia's Senate President Pro Tempore, Dr. Thoun Vathana, has urged for enhanced monitoring of legislative progress, improved law enforcement efficiency, and accelerated socio-economic development to meet the 2050 National Development Goals. Emphasis was placed on clarifying existing legal norms, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and boosting international information dissemination.
Phnom Penh, September 8, 2026 – Senate President Pro Tempore Dr. Thoun Vathana has urged for continued monitoring of legislative progress, enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement, and promoting national socio-economic development effectively to meet the 2050 National Development Goals. This directive was made during a meeting held on the afternoon of September 7, 2026, at the Senate Palace. During the meeting, Dr. Vathana emphasized the importance of clearly identifying existing legal and regulatory documents that support the implementation of laws. He also referred to documents that need to be further promoted, such as sub-decrees, ministerial announcements, inter-ministerial announcements, and other regulatory instruments. Procedures for sending official letters to relevant parties were also discussed to increase work efficiency and ensure timely responses. Dr. Vathana also highlighted the significance of information dissemination and public relations, urging for increased cooperation with national and international media institutions to widely disseminate accurate information internationally. This includes providing interviews and contributing articles to newspapers and magazines. The Senate President Pro Tempore commended the active participation of Senate members and agreed on establishing a mechanism to continue monitoring legal and regulatory documents supporting the law, as well as addressing concerns raised, particularly by commune/district council representatives, to serve the interests of the people.
