Missing Man with Alzheimer's Found Safe in Benguet

A man who had been reported missing was found safe near a creek in Itogon, Benguet, on Tuesday, September 8. A search team composed of police, barangay officials, and relatives scoured areas near his home, eventually finding him approximately 100 meters from his residence. The man was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer's disease, which may have caused him to become disoriented and wander away from his home. Upon discovery, he had minor scratches on his forehead and both thighs. Police and barangay personnel immediately assessed his condition and administered first aid. He was then carefully assisted to a safer location where his family could attend to him, with further medical evaluation to be arranged if needed. This incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safety of elderly individuals with dementia and the effectiveness of swift community response. As the population ages, strengthening support systems for dementia patients and their families is becoming a critical issue in the Philippines.
