Thai Nguyen Province Accelerates School Consolidation

Thai Nguyen Province in northern Vietnam has announced its policy to complete the school consolidation initiative at an early stage. This consolidation has garnered significant attention from society, parents, students, teachers, and school officials. The primary objective of the consolidation is to enhance educational quality and build a more efficient education system. Notably, the merger of colleges within higher education institutions is considered a crucial step towards improving training effectiveness. In conjunction with administrative boundary adjustments, the focus is placed on consolidating schools and branch campuses within the same administrative unit (xa, the smallest administrative division). This is expected to optimize educational resources and streamline management. This move by Thai Nguyen Province is part of a broader educational reform being implemented across Vietnam. The Ministry of Education and Training is piloting school consolidation in 15 provinces and cities nationwide, with the potential for its outcomes to influence the entire country. The school consolidation is not merely about reducing the number of schools but also serves as an opportunity to rigorously assess the qualifications of administrative staff and teachers, ensuring the placement of competent personnel. This will lay the foundation for welcoming the new academic year under optimal conditions. This reform reaffirms the importance of the education sector within the Communist Party of Vietnam's national development strategy, based on a long-term perspective for future human capital development.
