Cambodia has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the "High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)" and the "UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) High-Level Meeting," held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The Cambodian delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Planning and the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), participated in the forum, coordinated by the Permanent Mission of Cambodia to the UN. During the general debate of the high-level meeting, H.E. Pan Subhondit, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Planning, reiterated Cambodia's dedication to advancing the implementation of the SDGs, grounded in the "Diamond Strategy Phase 1" and the National Strategic Development Plan. H.E. Subhondit emphasized the crucial role of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) as key tools to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. He called for the promotion of SDGs education among children and youth to build a sustainable future. Furthermore, he urged for the strengthening of regional and international cooperation to address the financing gap for development. Within the ECOSOC High-Level Meeting, a session on "Regional Perspectives on SDG Implementation" was also held, where the Cambodian delegation discussed initiatives and challenges in achieving SDGs at the regional level. Cambodia regards the attainment of SDGs as one of its national development priorities, aiming for sustainable socio-economic development while aligning domestic policies with international objectives. The adoption of science and technology is particularly anticipated to be an indispensable element in fostering economic growth and resolving societal issues. Source: CEN Cambodia National
