Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee Union Minister for Sports Affairs U Ye Myint Tun inspected the training of national sports teams for the 34th Southeast Asian Games at Kyaikasan Sports Ground in Tamwe Township, Yangon on Saturday. He observed the weightlifting, karate and teqball teams, undergoing training for the upcoming SEA Games. He also reviewed medical supplies and three months’ supplements worth 10.5 million kyat donated by Myanmar Weightlifting Federation and provided cash assistance to the preliminary-selected karate team. He also urged athletes to maintain proper nutrition, health, fitness and mental strength and strive for gold medals. The Union Minister also attended the closing ceremony of the Wushu Taolu and San Shou Sports Referee Training Course, jointly conducted by Department of Sports and Physical Education and Myanmar Wushu Federation. He highlighted Myanmar Wushu Federation’s international record of 69 gold, 99 silver and 97 bronze medals, totaling 265 medals, and urged referees to perform their duties fairly, impartially and without corruption. Then, the completion certificates were presented to the trainee representatives. Myanmar-China Cooperation and Communication Central Association also donated nutritional supplements worth 21 million kyats to Myanmar national team administrators, coaches and athletes. Certificates of honor and 600,000 kyats of cash prizes were also awarded to the coaches. The Union Minister later visited the billiards and snooker team training at National Sports Stadium (1), Thuwunna and inspected the national athletes’ dormitory and canteen.
