Foreign Minister Retno Discusses Regional Security at ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, engaging in intensive discussions with member states and dialogue partners on several critical issues concerning regional security. Among the key agenda items, the developments in Myanmar and the implementation status of ASEAN's "Five-Point Consensus" were prominently discussed. Minister Retno reiterated the importance of ASEAN's continued engagement towards a peaceful and comprehensive resolution of the Myanmar situation. Discussions also covered territorial disputes in the South China Sea and ensuring freedom of navigation and safety in the region. Indonesia expressed its stance supporting peaceful resolution based on international law and enhancing the effectiveness of the ASEAN "Code of Conduct." Furthermore, opinions were exchanged on strengthening regional economic cooperation, as well as common challenges such as climate change and counter-terrorism. Minister Retno called for maintaining ASEAN's unity and centrality to ensure it remains at the core of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, urging cooperation among member states. The meeting served as a crucial opportunity to address the complex challenges facing ASEAN and to reaffirm the cooperation of various countries in maintaining and strengthening regional order.
