Cambodia Organizes Legal Awareness Forum on Combating Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation
Kandal Province, Cambodia, hosted a legal awareness forum aimed at combating human trafficking, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and the impacts of risky migration. The event engaged local residents, youth, and business representatives to enhance legal understanding and self-protection knowledge.
The Kandal Provincial Administration organized a legal awareness forum on June 30, 2026, in two districts within the province: Muk Kampoul and Ponhea Loeu. The forum focused on laws concerning the suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, the prevention of domestic violence and protection of victims, and the impacts of risky migration. Attendees included Ms. Srorn Sreyneng, Deputy Governor of Kandal Province and permanent Vice-Chairperson of the Provincial Committee for the Fight Against Human Trafficking. Also present were district authorities, commune police chiefs, commune chiefs, village chiefs, youth representatives, the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), students, members of the Women's Association, citizens, and representatives of various businesses. Ms. Srorn Sreyneng stated that the forum's objective was to enhance citizens' understanding of human trafficking, sexual exploitation of women and children, various forms of violence, and how to protect themselves or seek assistance. Crucially, it aimed to contribute to eradicating human trafficking by promoting knowledge and encouraging its further dissemination, particularly concerning the law on the suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children, and the law on preventing domestic violence and protecting victims, as well as the consequences of risky migration. Through lectures and question-and-answer sessions led by instructors, participants demonstrated a clear understanding of the meaning and intervention methods for incidents, as well as strategies for prevention and cooperation to combat offenses such as domestic violence, online sexual exploitation of women and children, all forms of human trafficking, and the impacts of risky migration. The Deputy Governor urged all levels of competent authorities to further enhance the effectiveness of the 'Safe Village-Commune' policy. She also called for active participation from citizens, students, relevant institutions, and business representatives in all forms and manifestations to educate, prevent, and suppress human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and domestic violence. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of maintaining contact with relatives who migrate domestically or internationally to check on their well-being, noting that poorly managed and risky migration is a primary cause of human trafficking abroad. The Deputy Governor appealed to citizens to contribute to the government and provincial/municipal/district administrations in preventing online scam offenses.
