Bodies of 2 SUV passengers found after Tarlac bridge collapse

TARLAC CITY, Philippines — The bodies of two of the four missing occupants of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that plunged into the Tarlac River following the partial collapse of Agana Bridge on Aug. 29 were recovered on Tuesday in separate areas of Pangasinan. The remains of James Patrick Taborlupa were snagged in a fishing net. The incident occurred when the Agana Bridge, which connects Tarlac City and Bayambang, partially collapsed as the SUV was traversing it. The vehicle plunged into the river, and all four occupants were reported missing. Rescue teams immediately launched search operations after the accident, but adverse weather conditions and the strong current of the river have hampered their efforts. The search for the remaining two individuals is ongoing. This accident highlights concerns about aging infrastructure and maintenance issues in the Philippines. Rural infrastructure, in particular, is often susceptible to budget constraints and natural disasters, posing risks to public safety.
