Medan Luxury Home Explosion Claims Two Lives, Search Continues
Two bodies have been recovered following a major explosion at a luxury residence in Medan, Indonesia. Authorities are continuing their search for one remaining victim, with initial investigations pointing to a potential gas leak as the cause.
A joint SAR (Search and Rescue) team has recovered a second body following a major explosion at a luxury residence in the Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan, North Sumatra. The female victim was found on Tuesday (21/7) around 3:45 PM Western Indonesian Time, buried under collapsed building materials on the second floor of the destroyed house. Medan Police Chief Kombes Pol Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak confirmed the discovery, stating, "Thank God, today at 3:45 PM, the joint team has found one more of the three victims who were still being searched for and evacuated last night from the scene at the house on the second floor." However, authorities have not yet been able to confirm the identity of the newly found victim. The body has been evacuated to RS Columbia Asia Medan for identification before being handed over to the family. "The second victim has just been found. But I cannot yet determine if this second one is the household assistant or the babysitter," Simanjuntak added. Previously, the SAR team had found another victim early Tuesday morning around 2:20 AM. This victim was identified as Jesika, the wife of the homeowner, found deceased beneath the building's wreckage. With the discovery of these two victims, search efforts continued on Tuesday afternoon for the final missing person, believed to still be on the second floor. According to information received by the evacuation team, the last victim's position is not far from where the second victim was found. The large explosion occurred at house number 3B in the Grand Polonia housing complex on Monday (20/7) around 3:30 PM. The blast caused severe damage to the three-story house, leading to the collapse of a large portion of its structure. The impact also damaged three cars parked in front of the house and affected several neighboring properties. The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation by the police and relevant teams. However, initial findings suggest a possible gas leak from an underground pipeline in the area.
