Thailand: School Closed, Mental Health Support Strengthened Following Shooting Incident

Following a shocking shooting incident at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, Thailand, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Yotchanan Wongsawat, along with Mr. Rachen Trakulwiang, a party-list Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Military Affairs, visited the school to closely monitor the situation. After inspecting the site, Prof. Dr. Yotchanan made an urgent appeal to the media and the public on social media to stop sharing or disseminating disturbing images of the incident, including those of the injured and deceased. He noted that a large number of distressing images have been circulated on social media, directly impacting the mental well-being of students, teachers, parents, and the families of the victims. As an initial measure, classes have been temporarily suspended for safety, and an assessment will be made to determine if normal classes can resume on Monday or Tuesday. Concurrently, the Ministry of Mental Health has been coordinated to dispatch a team of specialists to evaluate and provide psychological support to all those affected. Furthermore, an announcement has been made calling for urgent blood donations from the public to aid the injured victims.
