Surabaya Prison-Controlled Meth Courier Arrested by Bareskrim

The Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) have arrested a courier of methamphetamine (shabu) who was controlled by a network of inmates at the Surabaya Class 1 Correctional Facility (Rutan). Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, stated that the arrest was made following information received about drug trafficking from Medan to Lombok. "We received information from the public about someone who was going to send methamphetamine from Medan to Lombok via land route," he said in a written statement on Monday. Based on this information, Eko stated that the investigation team immediately conducted an investigation into the drug trafficking route. As a result, they located the suspect, Sayed Zuwanda (23), who was queuing at the port to board a ship. A joint team conducted a search with K-9 (drug detection dogs) and found a large quantity of methamphetamine inside Sayed's car. Five green Chinese tea packaging bags, suspected to contain methamphetamine, were found hidden inside the spare tire of a black Toyota Innova and seized as evidence. Sayed confessed that he received instructions from an inmate named Andreansyah Bin Soleh Maulana (alias ALM), who is detained at the Surabaya Class 1 Correctional Facility. Furthermore, it was revealed that Andreansyah was controlled by an individual named Haykal, who is a fugitive. Sayed was promised a reward of Rp27.5 million for transporting the methamphetamine from Medan to Lombok. Eko explained that Sayed accepted the offer due to economic necessity. Part of the reward had already been transferred to Sayed's account.
