VNA Intensifies Efforts Against Fake News

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the country's sole national news agency, is intensifying its fight against fake and false news. VNA is responsible for disseminating official information and documents from the Party and State, providing information in support of Party leadership and State management, and collecting and distributing news in a variety of formats to serve media organizations, the public, and audiences at home and abroad. To fulfill this mission, VNA proposes establishing a mechanism for information sharing and verification. This is a crucial step in ensuring access to official and accurate information and preventing the spread of misinformation in the rapidly evolving information landscape. Under Vietnam's one-party system, VNA's role as a source of official information is extremely important, and its credibility directly impacts the state's information control and public opinion formation. In recent years, while Vietnam has achieved rapid economic growth, the spread of fake news through the internet and social media has become a social challenge with the advancement of digitalization. Especially as relations with China become more complex, there are instances that resemble information warfare from a geopolitical perspective, leading the government to focus on stabilizing the information space. VNA's intensified efforts against fake news are positioned as part of strengthening its information infrastructure, considering both domestic and international contexts.
