Nearly 50 civilians arrested and interrogated after bomb blast in Hakha city

HAKHA – Nearly 50 civilians were arrested and interrogated following a bomb explosion in Hakha, the capital of Chin State, locals told the Irrawaddy Times. On August 6, the military detonated a hand grenade in front of CB Bank in Pyatohsa Ward, Hakha city. "The soldiers on guard detonated a hand grenade. Then there was small arms fire," a Hakha local told the Irrawaddy Times. Following the explosion, the military arrested and interrogated about 50 men from the vicinity, it was reported. "They tied up passersby with ropes and interrogated them," the aforementioned Hakha local told the Irrawaddy Times. Although the military attempted to detain the arrested individuals further, disagreements arose after the police expressed their stance on releasing them, leading to the release of all those detained. An official from CDF Hakha stated on their Facebook social media that the recent explosion was intended to be blamed on the CDF. It is reported that military personnel are continuing to stop and search passersby and motorcyclists, and are conducting phone checks.
