The Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology in Battambang, Cambodia, has announced the opening of the Battambang Multipurpose Dam. This decision comes as the dam's water level has exceeded its maximum capacity due to several days of intense rainfall. According to the department, heavy rains influenced by a low-pressure system, the southwest monsoon, andブリゼス (brises) have occurred from July 12th to 14th. This has led to significant flooding, particularly in Samlot district, with the floodwaters subsequently flowing into the Battambang Multipurpose Dam, causing its water volume to rise above the maximum limit. To alleviate the water pressure and manage the full reservoir, the department will be releasing water from the dam into the Sangkae River. This action is expected to cause a rapid increase in the river's water level in the near future. Consequently, residents living along the Sangkae River are strongly urged to exercise the highest degree of caution for the safety of the elderly, young children, as well as water pumps, boats, livestock, and other equipment.
