Vietnam-Cambodia Parliamentary Cooperation Strengthened, Ushering in New Phase of Bilateral Ties
Top parliamentary leaders from Vietnam and Cambodia met in Hanoi, reaffirming the comprehensive strengthening of bilateral ties. Particular emphasis was placed on enhanced parliamentary cooperation to foster mutual understanding between citizens and deepen economic collaboration, signaling a strategic partnership aimed at regional stability and economic growth.
On July 29, in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Member of the Central Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Parliamentarians Group, met with H.E. Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This meeting was part of H.E. Khuon Sudary's official visit to Vietnam and served to reaffirm the promotion of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. During the talks, the strengthening of cooperation between the parliaments of both nations was particularly emphasized. This is expected to deepen mutual understanding between citizens and lead to further promotion of economic cooperation. Vietnam and Cambodia have built strong relations over many years, with frequent exchanges between their leaders recently. The current meeting between the top parliamentary officials marks a significant step in further deepening these ties. H.E. Khuon Sudary also met with H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, during her visit to Vietnam, to exchange views on various aspects of bilateral cooperation. Furthermore, H.E. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, held discussions with H.E. Khuon Sudary, including the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments, and deliberated on concrete measures to strengthen collaboration. Vietnam is a key driver of economic growth in the Southeast Asian region, and strengthening relations with Cambodia is seen as contributing to the stability and development of the entire region. For Vietnam, which prioritizes economic development under its one-party system, maintaining good relations with neighboring countries is essential for sustained economic growth and expanding its influence in the international community. This enhancement of parliamentary cooperation may also lead to the promotion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, contributing to the fostering of friendly relations at the grassroots level.
