MMDA General Manager Pays P14,000 for Traffic Violations

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III has paid a fine of P14,000 for several traffic violations, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced. LTO chief Markus Lacanilao stated that the fines were incurred due to violations related to the use of the EDSA busway, tampering of license plates, reckless driving by Torre’s driver, and the use of blinkers. "Let's not commit (these violations) because these are serious matters, especially to us in the government," Lacanilao told ABS-CBN News, urging for compliance. He noted that Torre voluntarily surrendered the vehicle involved, which will remain under LTO custody while the investigation is ongoing. Lacanilao clarified that only select government officials are legally permitted to use blinkers, including the President, Vice President, Senate President, House Speaker, law enforcement agencies, and ambulances. Torre had previously apologized for the violations. This incident highlights the importance of traffic law adherence and the expectation of ethical conduct from public officials in the Philippines.
