Vietnamese President To Visit Australia and New Zealand

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, along with a high-level delegation, is scheduled to pay state visits to Australia and New Zealand from August 9 to 14, 2026. The visit aims to promote trade and investment and enhance the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia. Particular attention is given to expanding potential cooperation in the defense sector. Additionally, an Australia exhibition and introduction space is planned to be launched at Can Tho University, serving as a platform to showcase Australian culture and academia. In parallel, a Vietnam Knowledge Network will be established in New Zealand, creating a new framework to foster intellectual exchange and cooperation between the two nations. Furthermore, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung is set to co-chair the ASEAN-New Zealand Ministerial Meeting and will hold discussions with New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters, signaling an effort to deepen diplomatic ties. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to pursue economic growth while increasing its international standing. The country is actively implementing a multifaceted foreign policy, aiming to strengthen relations with Western countries and Oceania while managing its complex relationship with regional power China.
