Overseas Vietnamese Declared Key Strategic Resource for National Development

The Communist Party of Vietnam has clearly defined its policy to position overseas Vietnamese (OV) as an "important strategic resource" for national development. This follows the adoption of a new resolution by the Party on overseas Vietnamese affairs. The resolution reaffirms that OVs are an "inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation," emphasizing their role as a bridge connecting Vietnam with the world, as well as direct contributors to national construction, development, and defense. This new policy indicates an intention to actively leverage the knowledge, experience, and networks possessed by OVs to foster Vietnam's economic growth and strengthen international cooperation. Within Vietnam's one-party system, the unity of the people and the maximization of national interests are consistently prioritized, and this resolution can be understood within that context. Particularly for Vietnam, which continues to experience rapid economic growth, the utilization of human resources and capital spread across the globe is a crucial key to further development. While the Vietnamese government has sought to strengthen ties with OVs in the past, this new resolution strengthens the stance of viewing OVs from a more strategic perspective and promoting the utilization of their resources through concrete projects.
