The Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Environment will launch a campaign to distribute 100,000 diverse saplings free of charge to the public, in response to climate change. This initiative aims to increase forest cover and promote environmental conservation. Distribution will commence on July 17th at eight locations across the province.
Mondulkiri Province, located in southeastern Cambodia, is endowed with abundant forests and valuable natural resources, playing a crucial role in maintaining environmental balance and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Mr. Hass Vibol, Director of the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Environment, told "Kampuchea Thmey" that in response to global climate change, the department will launch a campaign to distribute diverse saplings free of charge to the public. This initiative aims to encourage citizens to plant trees at their homes, pagodas, schools, nature reserve communities, and other public spaces, thereby expanding forest cover across Cambodia. The sapling distribution program will commence on July 17, 2026, and will take place at eight locations throughout Mondulkiri Province. These include the Provincial Department of Environment in Douk Krum village, Sokdom commune, Sen Monorom city; the Keo Seima regional sapling nursery in Sre Khom village, Keo Seima district; the Dey Khmau office within the Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary; the Trapeang Thier office within the Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary; the Tra Chhuk office within the Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary; the Roal Leu office within the Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary; the Me Mam office within the Phnom Prech Wildlife Sanctuary; and the Kea Ropov office within the Phnom Prech Wildlife Sanctuary in Keo Seima district. According to Mr. Vibol, over 100,000 saplings are currently available for public distribution, and more than 20,000 have already been given to citizens. The team will continue to distribute them in line with the "green" principle of the environmental strategy: "Protect, Expand, and Develop." Additionally, citizens seeking precise information on distribution locations can contact the department by phone during working hours or scan a QR code for details. Source: Kampuchea Thmey Local
