Thailand to Formulate Data Center Strategy; Zoning, Safety Standards Discussed at First Board Meeting

The Thai government has initiated the formulation of a data center strategy to bolster the nation's digital infrastructure and promote the growth of the data center industry. As a first step, the inaugural meeting of the Data Center Board was held on September 4th. During this meeting, key proposals on the agenda included the introduction of "zoning" for data center site selection, the establishment of "control standards" for buildings, and the setting of "safety standards." The development of these regulations and standards aims to foster sustainable and secure data center development within Thailand and attract both domestic and international investment. In particular, stricter standards are expected to be set to meet global data protection regulations and cybersecurity demands. Thailand has been accelerating its transition to a digital economy in recent years, with increasing demand for cloud services and big data analytics. Against this backdrop, establishing a domestic supply system for high-performance and secure data centers is considered an essential element for enhancing national competitiveness.
