Hanoi University of Science and Technology Launches Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) officially launched its Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Hanoi on August 1st. This marks a new development in the university's strategy to train high-quality human resources in the healthcare sector, meeting the evolving demands of the pharmaceutical and medical fields in the new era. The launch ceremony was attended by representatives from leading units of the Ministry of Health, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), domestic and international universities, research institutes, hospitals, businesses, and USTH's international partners. Professor Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, President of USTH, affirmed that the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is not just the birth of a new training unit but a strategic step towards realizing USTH's mission of training high-quality human resources. It also further solidifies USTH's identity, built on the foundation of strategic cooperation between the Vietnamese and French governments. The faculty is oriented towards international standards, closely integrating education, research, innovation, and professional practice, aiming to cultivate a workforce capable of global integration and meeting the demands of the pharmaceutical and medical sectors in the current landscape. According to the university's vision, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy will be built upon a network of cooperation with French universities, research institutes, hospitals, and businesses, along with the system of research institutes under VAST and USTH's own training and research ecosystem. These advantages will provide students with access to an international educational environment, modern laboratories, strong research groups, and experts in various interdisciplinary scientific fields. This will create a solid impetus for USTH's Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy to quickly become a reputable institution for training and research, making practical contributions to the development of internationally qualified human resources for Vietnam's pharmaceutical and medical sector. Regarding the university's future development directions, Professor Thanh stated that USTH will continue to develop strategic fields such as Medicine, Nuclear Energy, and other advanced science and technology disciplines. The university will promote interdisciplinary research and strengthen cooperation with domestic and international universities, research institutes, hospitals, and businesses. These directions are also aimed at realizing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on national science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, contributing to building the university not only as a place for knowledge transfer but also as a center for research, innovation, and international connectivity. Associate Professor Pham The Hai, Head of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at USTH, noted that the establishment of the faculty not only expands USTH's training system but also helps leverage the strengths of the VAST research ecosystem. It enhances the linkage between training, scientific research, and innovation, aiming to train high-quality human resources that meet the development requirements of the pharmaceutical and medical industry and the cause of public healthcare. In the 2026-2027 period, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, along with the university, will focus on building and consolidating the Pharmacy program, including Pharmacoeconomics-Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Industry-Formulation. In the subsequent phase, from 2027 to 2030, the university aims to open and train in fields with high social demand, such as Pharmaceutical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, and Nutrition. From 2030 onwards, the university plans to expand postgraduate training and prepare for the establishment of a General Medicine program. At the ceremony, university leadership and students participated in the official launch of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. A ceremony was held to present white coats to students from the PHA1, PHA2, and PHA3 cohorts under the theme "Bestowing the White Coat - Aspiring to be Excellent Pharmacists," followed by the oath-taking by the students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. The launch ceremony provided an opportunity for USTH to introduce the vision, mission, and development orientation of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, reaffirming its commitment to training pharmacists with solid professional competence, exemplary professional ethics, and a strong desire to contribute to the development of the nation's healthcare system.
