Lao Transport Minister Attends Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing

The Lao Minister of Transport attended the Global Sustainable Transport Forum held in Beijing, China. The forum brought together transport ministers, UN officials, ambassadors, and other representatives to exchange experiences and discuss ways to advance sustainable, safe, and efficient transport systems. Key discussions focused on strengthening global connectivity, supporting the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and promoting the Decade of Sustainable Transport Action Plan 2026–2035. Participants also discussed the development of green transport and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the transport sector, aiming to leverage the forum as a platform for international consultation and cooperation. Key topics included improving the safety, resilience, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of transport systems; facilitating trade, investment, and cross-border transport; and expanding access to affordable, safe, and inclusive transport infrastructure. The forum also examined the role of transport in supporting local communities and industrial development, as well as efforts to reduce development gaps and improve living standards. The participation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with international partners and explore approaches to modernizing the country’s transport sector, strengthening regional connectivity, and promoting more sustainable transport development.
